| When not pursuing my main line of photography, my hobby is photographing
cityscapes, landscapes and people at leisure. I walk around the
London parks and wander about the tourist spots or anywhere lots
of people might gather. It's a nice day out for me and it's something
I prefer to do on an occasional sunny Sunday.
A couple of times a year, I tour a part of Britain by car and
take the camera with me and shoot as I go. I do not hang about
waiting for the light because the photography is not the main
purpose of my trips. I often gravitate to the seaside and people
- nearly all my pictures have people in them. I apply the technique
to them at a later date sometimes months or in some cases years
later when I get round to it.
I have occasionally been commissioned to shoot in this style and
it is only then that I create scenarios, otherwise it's about
documenting what I come across. However, I am now doing some nudes
in order to round out the narrowness of the subject matter. I
am even contemplating some still-lives, but I find it hard taking
pictures without human beings in them. I now have a substantial
body of work that never sees the light of day and I wish to make
it my next book project.
Because the style is so impressionistic, I take my cue from the
Impressionists. I see the work as very European and stick to the
appropriate subject matter. I have never yet done a surreal picture
then applied this technique because I do not think they would
mix, but I think my Cunt Flower series would look very lovely
in this technique. |
